August 15th, 2015:
Life is full of randomness. I first met Christian in Argentina in 2007 when we both arrived in the super crowded vacation town of Bariloche; I had staggered around to a few different hostels looking for a bed, but everything was full. When I finally found a place where the last room they had left had two beds, Christian walks into the lobby, also without a place to stay for the night. I invited him to split my room with me and we hit it off, sharing a few drinks, swapping travel tales and planning a cycling trip for the next day.
Later that same year, I took a trip to Munich for Oktoberfest with my brother. Christian showed me around his hometown, let me drink with his guys at Oktoberfest, I had a chance to meet his new girlfriend Anne, and drink until we ended up cycling around Munich slightly intoxicated. After that trip, we didn’t chat too much and we both got on with our lives; I got married to Felicia and Christian + Anne had their son, Jakob. We both just got busy, knowledgable that we had friends on the other side of the world.
Then one day earlier this year, after being out of touch for more than 7 years, Christian shot me a Facebook message and asked me to come to Munich to photograph his wedding celebration with Anne. The world really is a small place, and I’m honored to have had the chance to spend some time in Germany to photograph this families celebration. Congrats again to you both and thanks for making me feel so welcome!
Now, hopefully it’s less than 7 more years before we see each other again!
