Day: 308

Day 308-5.JPG

With excessive amounts of drinking planned, I haven’t been carrying my camera with me into the festival yesterday or today.  So my apologizes for the sub-par pictures.  Have hope though! Tomorrow I am going for a beer-free (ok, maybe one) day just to take a bunch of pictures.  So tomorrow will most likely be a photo heavy post.

By the time we were finally up, eaten, and I had blogged it was almost three in the afternoon before we headed off to the festival grounds to show Kenneth and Brandon some of the craziness of last night.  Unfortunately, this time we didn’t have a German guide with us, which meant no friends to save us a table. Which unfortunately means no beer.  No Seat = No Beer.

We wandered through gigantic tent after tent with no success.  No seats anywhere.  Frustration for the lack of booze and the hot sun set in.  We made one more pass through the HofBrau tent and found a “Standing Room” section stuffed with Aussies, Kiwis and Brits, who apparently all had the same problem as us.  We finally each had a liter in hand, and headed outside to the patio.

Tensions Eased.

Beer flow.

We drank another liter.

They locked the doors.  (the tent was now too full)

With a good buzz going and the sun just past setting, filled up on fried pork sandwiches and headed back to our place.  We had plans to meet up with Chris in a while, and figured to just chill out before a long night began.

Just before 11pm we wandered through the poorly numbered streets of Munich finally making it to Chris’ place where we proceeded to smoke spliffs for the next couple of hours prior to heading off to see a German DJ who started spinning at 2am. We drank more and danced our asses off for a couple of hours before becoming separated.  Chris and his girlfriend, Anna, were about to take off, and me (who seems to be getting older these days) left with them. It was a few kilometers back, and since the train only ran every 30 minutes I figured on having a nice stroll.

Chris would have none of it.

“Climb up on the handlebars and I’ll ride you back.”

“You sure?” I already had vivid images of the trouble this could cause.  Finally, we decided that Anna should ride on the handlebars (having done so in the past and being far lighter than me) and I would ride her bike.

I have to say. Biking through the empty German streets on a nice night, with the pavement still wet from an earlier rain, and friends laughing and trying not to fall over, has to be one of my great experiences.  Simple, yes, but truly enjoyable for me.

I made it home around 4:30am, Aaron showed up shortly after (having to take the train and not the amazing ride), and Kenneth and Brandon were so nice to ring the buzzer to get me out of bed as the sun came up.
