Day: 169
So I know all that talk that a photographer should always be able to get good photos as long as there is light. I agree with it too, but it is so much more fun when the sun and the sky comes out to play.
As you’ve probably gathered by now, it was rather overcast today. I didn’t have any huge plans, just had a bus from El Chalten to El Calafate at six pm. Both of which are in Patagonia, the region which consists of the southern cone of South America in the countries of Argentina and Chile, I am currently on the east side of the Andes which is in Argentina. There you go Mom, enjoy your geography lesson.
Anyways my bus wasn’t until six, and all the others I have been hanging out with had earlier buses. I had breakfast with Marcus and Liz, wandered through the tiny town with them, then saw them off; making plans to meet tonight for a beer after I make it to El Calafate. I spent the afternoon, lounging around the hostel, photoshopping, blogging and hoping the sun will come out, tomorrow! (random musical theater quotes are always necessary.)
The bus ride was boring, just sat around listening to music. We did make a stop where I was able to get a couple of mediocre photos, and I made it into El Calafate by 9:45. Within an hour, I had found my bed, and was sitting in a bar, beer in had waiting for my friends to show up.
The best news of the day came when Marcus and Liz showed up and he let me know that they had found a rental car for tomorrow for $50 to go see the Perito Moreno Glacier that’s 90 kilometers outside of town. With four of us piled into the tiny car it would only cost $12 each instead of the $25 that the tour companies charge to get out to the glacier, plus more freedom. Chalk another point up to my team!
Good stuff coming tomorrow, I promise. The sun even came out.

That’s it, you’re fired! :-p
I was actually rather fond of the black dog photo. Illustrated the anticipation perfectly.
Im running outside when I get home to release all of my aresol hairspray. Let me know if that glacier breaks off like the other one I heard about. Better wear extra sunscreen. Can’t wait to see the pictures. “I thought it would be good for you to get together”…”Yeah…. No I dont want to do that”. “Sometimes I cry for no reason”. “Say thats that, Mattress Man!”
Love the truck. Overcast makes it interesting.
Dear readers;
If you want to follow Robs progress from a geographical perspective, I would suggest that you go to Google and type in “Google Earth”. There you will download a free satellite imaging program that allows you to see where Rob is anywhere on our earth. It works easy, and if you go to Southwest Argentina area, you will find the “Fitz Roy” and the “Perito Moreno” glaciers.
BTW Rob, can you snowboard the glaciers?
Dude, these have been some of your better pictures. : P
