March 17th, 2011:
Southern California provides a host of varied landscapes that make for awesome engagement shoots, and, as evident from this blog, different couples pick different locations, based on aesthetics, or in this case: sentimental reasons.
Denna & Parker met through mutual friends at a party on the rooftop bar of The Standard Hotel. To celebrate their long-standing engagement, they requested that we shoot at this beautiful location where they first laid eyes on each other. Parker bought drinks – beer for himself and Malibu/Pineapple for Denna – the same drink that he had bought her several years ago.
On this cloudy Monday, there were but a few guests milling around, leaving us lots of freedom to shoot — that is, until a hotel employee came up to us, pointed out my “professional grade cameras” and politely said we could not take pictures without paying for a permit, although he told us we were free to shoot with small cameras and our phones. Oh well. At least we already got some cool pictures.
The Los Angeles Library was right next door to the Standard, so on the way to our cars we stopped by for a few pictures in the gardens out front.
And now for the evening wear segment…
What can I say, Angelenos love their city!
Thanks Denna & Parker for being so fun to photograph, and for buying us some delicious Thai food for dinner afterwards!
