Chilling out with Mickey & Friends: Iris + Mike

Several weeks ago, Iris got in touch with me and requested an engagement session at Disneyland. It was one of the many stops she had to make during the scavenger hunt Mike planned as part of his proposal, so it was only apt that they would have a photoshoot there to commemorate this milestone in their relationship.

First Daniel’s elaborate scavenger hunt and proposal at Corona del Mar, then Jerald springing a surprise proposal in Malibu, and now I hear about Mike’s proposal scavenger hunt involving the happiest place on earth. Crap. I’m glad I’ve already tricked Felicia into marrying me…]

Iris and Mike generously invited both Felicia and I to the Park, so on Friday morning, we woke up while it was still dark outside, dressed for cold rainy weather, and earnestly hoped that The Weather Channel would be right and it would just be overcast but not rain on us until noon at least.

After a smooth 37 miles on the I-5 and a pitstop at Starbucks, we pulled into the huge Disney parking structure where the parking attendant took my credit card with obvious hesitation.

But before we could figure out what was going on, an older gentleman stepped out of the booth behind him, congratulated us on being ‘Guest of the Day’ and proclaimed us ‘Honorary Citizens’ of Disneyland.

What?????

Needless to say, it was a very pleasant surprise. We were escorted to free, front row ‘premier parking’, grabbed our photography gear and hopped into the waiting Disney SUV and were chauffeured right to the entrance, as Disney employees flanked the vehicle and waved cheerfully at us.

It was surreal, but we’re definitely not complaining!

I haven’t been to Disneyland in 5 or 6 years at least, and it was Felicia’s first visit, so she got buttons from our guest-of-the-day guide!

Iris and Mike met us shortly after, full of energy and excited for their shoot. Iris even came prepared in rain boots!

We got our hands on Space Mountain FastPasses and had a screaming good time with Iris and Mike. I love that I happened to be in the front seat so I got some cool tunnel shots too (yes, I take pictures even when on a rollercoaster).

Turns out, Weather Channel was wrong: Not only did it not rain, it was a rather warm & wonderful day!

Iris and Mike are such a fun-loving and humorous couple. Felicia and I had an awesome time going on rides with them, hanging out, and of course, taking pictures. Judging from their smiles and carefree laughter, I’d almost have to concede that Disneyland is indeed THE Happiest Place on Earth!
