June 29th, 2011:
A day after we shot a wedding in Annapolis (more on that soon, as I’m slowly but steadily going through all that editing), we headed to the heart of our nation to photograph Angela & Jeff, who live in DC, but are getting married in San Diego later this summer.
We started off at Hotel Monaco, one of the many architecturally-stunning buildings in Washington DC.
Then we headed off to banks of the Potomac River for a change of scenery while waiting for the sun to set.
I had some grand plans to create some epic imagery with the reflecting pool, but unfortunately it was being dredged, leaving a rather large and unsightly concrete and mud filled hole instead. Not so epic, not so glamorous. Instead, we climbed around the back side of the Lincoln Memorial, artfully dodging the interminable crowds, and as expected – dealt with security guards and the cops. While I was photographing Angela & Jeff, Felicia was fitfully waiting in the car in a ‘No Parking’ zone, ready to drive around and around the National Mall until we were done if asked to leave. Thankfully, the cop cars circling the area didn’t bother her, so she just chatted with my grandpa on the phone for 40 minutes instead. Nice.
It was so much fun shooting in a different city – especially a city with so much to offer, and in such epic proportions too. See you soon in San Diego, Angela & Jeff!
