March 24th, 2011:
Last Sunday, as the skies dumped torrential buckets upon Southern California, my wife took on the insane challenge of doing 108 Sun Salutations (that’s 1,296 yoga poses in total) within 2 hours. It was a charity event that raises funds for the National Lung Cancer Partnership, and she was extremely passionate about participating, having lost her Dad to the disease last year.
My grandma also passed away from lung cancer about a decade ago, despite having never smoked in her life, so this is a cause that’s also close to my heart. However, seeing as I am severely lacking in the yogic ability department, I volunteered as the event photographer instead. Sorry to disappoint. I know some of you would just love to see me contorted into some deformed human pretzel form, don’t you? Meanies…

I am not sure why I find this absolutely hilarious, seeing that by this point my wife’s shoulders were killing her and she had to rest in crocodile pose, but it is one of my favorite photos of the day because it showed how she felt for the 3 days that followed. I guess it didn’t help that the very next day after the yogathon, she was lugging around cameras, gear, and holding up lighting as we plunged right into more photoshoots…
My wife made goodie bags for her team, complete with home-made cookies in adorable little baggies. She kicked ass at being Team Captain!
I’m really proud of her for finishing strong, and very glad she made extra cookies too. Mmm… yummy yummy contingency cookies….
