Day: 8
Well today was dreary, and although I did make it up to the mountain to snowboard, after three hours I just headed back to the hostel soaking wet from the rain. It has got a little warmer in the last couple of days and has melted much of the snow from the previous week. I wasn’t too distressed though, I just spent the rest of the day doing my laundry, eating and reading, I didn’t even get up the energy to get my camera out for more than a little while. I starting to delve a little deeper into books about the regions I will be exploring in the next few months, and I started to get excited to move on from this beautiful country.
That brings me to the next part of my adventure that I am going to need help with. Around the 22nd/23rd of this month I will have roughly 3 weeks to wander South Eastern Europe. Where should I go? What do you, my readers, want to see? Romania, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Croatia? I am hoping to meet Ed in Hungary the second week of April and work my way north. That gives me about 3 weeks to check out some of the countries I just listed. Which do you want to see? Everyone post a comment with your opinion and let me know. (that means everyone who is reading this, not just my family!). It’s kind of like a “choose your own adventure” book (for those of you around my age).

Let me go get my handy little globe out so I can figure out what countries SE Europe actually consists of (besides the ones clearly listed). I didn’t know there was gonna be a geography lesson with this. I may rethink this whole audience participation thing 🙂
Hey Rob,
Sarah and your Mom and I had wanted to get to the following in norht-west Italy, called: Cinque-Terre (Five towns or lands). You can hike to each of the five, one town a day, approx I believe 5 miles apart.
Here is the web site for local Hostels.

Check it out. It is supposed to be incredible.
You must be in heaven! I am not sure where you should go since I have never been to that part of the world….I will follow you whichever way you head!
OK… I know this is considered somewhat of the outskirts of Eastern Europe, but my vote is Athens and Mykonos, Greece!!! I am quite hesitant about Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I know it’s not as bad as the Middle East, but seriously… the whole ethnic cleansing thing wasn’t all that long ago! We do NOT need to see you on some grainy videotape while your captors demand the immediate release of Slobodan Milosevic’s henchmen in exchange for your slupid ass! Also, the pictures would be really pretty.
Thanks for the laugh Jo!!
There were a few guys on the water polo team from Croatia. They were pretty cool guys. I think thats on your way to Hungary. I dont really know much about the country, but it would be one country not many people have been to you could put on your list. Keep on trucking, Daniel.
If you stop in Croatia to see to see some men’s water polo team I will kick your ass, I don’t care how cool Daniel thinks they are! Please get off the nature pic-kick and post some photos that would make me proud. Example, the cruise pics. Stop dicking off and get to work.
Well said Jo! Rob, what an awesome picture of the chateu in the sun. Enjoy!
Sorry about the two entries. I just finished reading and veiwing your last three days. I am so envious. What a beautiful county, both indoors and out. Enjoy all the people. I am enjoying them through your eyes. Can not wait till I can enjoy the next entry. Love you, Mom
Croatia is definitely on my list–supposed to be amazing–and is not dangerous at this time–check out the Dalmation Coast.
The Phillipines…I remember when Bob Altman/Robin Williams and I did massive lines of coke in Manilla when we were making Popeye…Did we get loaded? You bet.
After Josh finishes kicking your ass, I will do the same, without ever putting down my brew.
i say croatia, if it isn’t too late to make a suggestion, that is…
