Just finished up a EPIC engagement session with Bethie + Craig in Malibu. I’ve said it so many times, but come to your shoot ready to have fun and the magic will just flow! Thanks you two!

Jill + Drake love the outdoors, so for their engagement session we wanted to be sure to capture some of California’s epic beauty. We started at Malibu Creek State Park for some time under the rolling hills of oak trees before heading up the coast to El Matador State Beach to catch the sunset and high tide.
They were up for anything, even scampering between the incoming waves to climb the rocks and structures along the coast, trying the whole time not to get completely soaked. We all left the session wet and sandy, but it definitely made for a spectacular California afternoon.
Congrats again you two, I’ll see you next year at your wedding!

When we met with Kim & Ian to talk about their wedding, they already knew what they wanted for their engagement photos: she loves the oak tress of California, and he wanted to shoot on the beach. That’s awesome, I like decisive people!
So a couple of weeks ago we did exactly just that, starting off at Malibu Creek State Park where we tried to stay out of the scorching sun, and then cooled off at El Matador Beach as the sun began to set.
Thanks for a fun shoot! See you next year for your wedding!

Britany contacted me a few months back from Japan about photographing her and Roberto’s wedding day. Amazingly, Britany was planning the whole thing from overseas and they just arrived in town a couple days ago, and about 2 weeks before their big day. Still jet lagged from the transpacific flight, Roberto and Britany met us for an overcast afternoon of engagement pictures at El Matador State Beach in Malibu. They are a completely awesome couple and totally game for scampering up on the rocks and hiking down to the beach in 4 inch heels. See you both soon!
Congrats again Britany + Roberto! We’ll see you in a couple weeks for your wedding!

On a gorgeous Sunday afternoon I packed my cameras and wife into the car for a drive up PCH. Felicia and I were on our way to El Matador State Beach to meet Chrissy and John for the first time to shoot their engagement session. They are getting married next July in downtown, so we suggested we meet at this rustic beach for something totally different. What I didn’t take into account was that there would be no less that 12 other photographers on the beach shooting family, engagement, band, scenery and just about any other photography you could imagine. The beach was a veritable studio which fortunately provide enough nooks and crannies for everyone to shoot in. Chrissy and John we’re totally chill and dodged photographers like they were celebrities. Never even blinking at all the cameras.
It was right around this time when my camera went “click, chunk, click, TH-Chunk!” followed by a series if gasps and weezes before it gave me an “Err 99” and the shutter completely died. I popped the lens off and looked inside to see that the shutter was looking like a wadded up ball of aluminum foil. The last 9 frames looked like this.
For years I have always carried backups for our backups but this is the first time we ever had a piece of gear fail. Figuring it’s just part of the business, I tossed that body in my camera bag, pulled another camera out and kept shooting. A couple days later, I dropped the camera off at Canon in Irvine, they gave me a loaner camera (one of the benefits of Canon Professional Services) and they promised to have it back to factory condition in 48 hours. Sweet.
The sunset quickly became epically Californian and as my white skin slowly took on a pink cast our wonderful couple started getting their feet wet.
Congrats again to you both! See you again soon!
