April 10th, 2020:
So we’re all in the middle of this Covid-19 insanity right now and I’m locked away in Southern California. I had just moved back from Seattle earlier in the year and was crashing at moms while apartment/house hunting when all this hit, so now, (with the majority of my things are all still in storage), I’m living in a weird limbo. As I guess we all are in one way or another.
I’ve been working with clients to postpone and reschedule their shoots and weddings until later in the year. As of now the calendar is clear until June and my days are (very lightly) packed with backing up images, rebuilding my website and cooking… lots of cooking… I am 90% certain I’ll come out of social distancing 15lbs heavier.
I also just got around to looking through some of the last things I photographed before moving that got postponed from the blog and I came across this shoot of Miguel + Lauren from late December (you might remember these two from the epic Star Wars astroshoot out in Death Valley in 2017). This was the second time these two went above and beyond for their pictures and I can’t wait to head to Austin for their wedding at New Years!

It was a spectacular day for Ramon + Viviana to be surrounded by their children (including their adorable 5 year old twins) and all the rest of the family celebrating their wedding at Tibbetts Creek Manor is Issaquah. I had that perfectly soft overcast light during their portrait session, giving us some of that magical Pacific Northwest skies. Congrats to you both and your family, thanks for letting me spend the day with you!

I first met Nicole when we photographed her brother Sean’s wedding back in 2011, now almost 5 years later I get to celebrate again with this wonderful family by taking part in Nicole + Jon’s wedding day.
Before they get hitched next October, we headed out to Malibu Creek State Park to shoot an engagement session for these two. Nicole has hiked and rock climbed around this area (so it’s close to her heart) plus they really wanted that wild California oak tree look and this location defiantly brings that. We even got the added benefit of being able to work with an overcast sky which created some beautiful soft light to photograph by.
Thanks for the fantastic afternoon you two and I look forward to seeing you again soon!

Alison and Stephen celebrated their wedding outside under the oak trees of Anaheim’s Oak Canyon Nature Center and you couldn’t have asked for better, more relaxed, fall afternoon to get married. Alison was walked down the aisle by her 88 year old grandfather and Stephen was all smiles for her throughout the day.
Thanks again to Kenny for shooting with me, and congrats again to you both! Have a fantastic marriage!

I was talking with Felicia today about Erick + Karla’s engagement session and told her it was super sweet that they decided to do part of their engagement session outside the Adamson House in Malibu where Erick proposed…
Felicia looked at me and said… “I sure as fuck hope you don’t take me back to where we got engaged!”
For the record, I asked Felicia to get married while she was fighting a horrid case of salmonella in super dodgy hotel room La Paz, Bolivia where the view from our window looked like this and the people in the next room had a fetish for uber loud techno music. Romance it wasn’t, but it was the moment I knew I wanted to spend my life with Felicia and the question just popped out. After confirming with me 3 times that her fever wasn’t making her hear things and that I knew what I was doing, she said “Yes”.
Anyhow, back to Erick + Karla. I had a fantastic time photographing with them at Malibu Creek State Park, the Adamson House and the Malibu beaches. It was great to get to know you both and am excited to be part of your celebration in July!

Melissa and Hersh got married earlier this month at the Temecula Creek Inn and brought to their celebration a super relaxed vibe of love and joy. They both were a pleasure to work with and I throughly enjoyed photographing their celebration! Special thanks to Kenny Song for coming along and photographing with me for the day.
Congrats again you both and I hope you are having the most amazing honeymoon!

Jill + Drake love the outdoors, so for their engagement session we wanted to be sure to capture some of California’s epic beauty. We started at Malibu Creek State Park for some time under the rolling hills of oak trees before heading up the coast to El Matador State Beach to catch the sunset and high tide.
They were up for anything, even scampering between the incoming waves to climb the rocks and structures along the coast, trying the whole time not to get completely soaked. We all left the session wet and sandy, but it definitely made for a spectacular California afternoon.
Congrats again you two, I’ll see you next year at your wedding!

When we met with Kim & Ian to talk about their wedding, they already knew what they wanted for their engagement photos: she loves the oak tress of California, and he wanted to shoot on the beach. That’s awesome, I like decisive people!
So a couple of weeks ago we did exactly just that, starting off at Malibu Creek State Park where we tried to stay out of the scorching sun, and then cooled off at El Matador Beach as the sun began to set.
Thanks for a fun shoot! See you next year for your wedding!

Each year we have a few couples that we consult with over the phone because they live far away, and it’s always extra intriguing to meet up with them right before launching into a full photoshoot. Thankfully, Agnes & Daniel were even more awesome in person!
We started at Malibu Creek State Park where Rob showed off his impressive Eagle Scout skills and fashioned a rather sturdy tent out of the materials Agnes & Daniel brought (the sticks for the tent frame were cut from a tree in their parents’ backyard). Robert Paetz Photography: now includes campsite set-up.
We had an incredible time with these two, nevermind the onslaught of crazy gnats at Point Dume.
Thanks for being so much fun, you guys! Can’t wait for the wedding!
Daniel is a photojournalist, so they brought a vintage camera, which we managed to shoot through (right). The apple’s for Agnes, as she’s a professor.
