Day: 226
As with most flight days, this one started off pretty much the same. Getting pillaged and scrutinized by the TSA, finding a layover Bloody Mary, Ed showing me how to smile, and finally landing in the steamy country of Belize just before 3pm local time.
Now for those of you that don’t know where Belize is- many of you from the questioning looks I have got in the last couple of weeks- go to Google Earth and have a geography lesson. For those of you to lazy to do that, it is south of the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea. It is a tropical climate complete with sweltering humidity, billions of mozzies, and even the human Bot Fly. I already promised Ed that if I have Bot fly lays eggs in me I’d name my new traveling companion and let it gestate so that in six to eight weeks we can have fun pulling it out of my flesh.
With my trusty Lonely Planet: Belize in hand we found our (there are three of us for the next ten days; myself, my brother Ed and his friend Brian) way across the street from the airport and rented a sick Chevy Tracker for the ripoff price of $80/day. I had been perusing for a destination for tonight while on the plane, and the amazingly named Gales Point Manatee just stuck out. Home to the Caribbean’s largest Manatee colony, and a minimal 60 miles (70 if you count me getting lost) from the airport.
(I wrote The above while sober, now I am drunk). You need to bear (arrggg) with me, good stuff will come tomorrow. I promise.
I spent the rest of the day drinking beer and berry wine, Wasm’t too bad.
